Mini macarons tutorial (Polymer clay)

Today's tutorial will be on mini macarons. I love love how macarons look and taste, so it no doubt that I have to make them. I'm not too good at baking so I can only make them using clay. The macarons are small but simple to make and you only need one tool. Let's get started!

Things you need:
-One coloured clay (The colour you want your macarons to be)
-White clay
-A needle tool
-An oven
The first step is to create two small balls from the coloured clay (I'm using pastel pink). Make sure both are as even as possible. The sizes of the ball depends on how big you want your macarons to be.
Next lightly press the ball down to create a flat circle.
Which should look like this. Don't make it too flat.
Use the side of the needle tool to press the sides down lightly.
It should have a little dent like this. Do this step all around the side of the clay.
The clay should now look like it has been divided into two.
After you have formed a straight line around the side of the clay, use the needle tool and poke the bottom half of the clay. Lightly poke and use circular motions to create look of the macaron after it has been baked.
There should be little small holes but they cannot be too deep.

And you're done with one side of the macaron. Now just repeat the same steps for the other side.
You should have two sides now!
Next, take a small piece of white clay. This will be a filling for the macaron.
Press it  down lightly and it should be the same size as your macaron.
Put them on top of one another.
For the last step, lightly press them down together. Look at it as you press and you will slowly see it taking the form of a macaron!
Finally, bake it and your done!
Put them in little jars and it looks really cute. This is really simple to make and you can make it in any colour you want. I hope you enjoyed this tutorial. Good luck!

It's been long

It's been such a long time since I last blogged. I got really busy with work and there was simply was no time to do any crafting. I'm sad... But.... I recently manage to create a few little things and they are up and selling on my Etsy shop. If you want to visit my shop it can be found on the top bar: Shop. If not search for Gemnesis!

These are the five things that are up right now:
I'm calling her Mika. It took me such a long time to get this right. Maybe I should do a post on how my clay dolls change. For some reason, I can't get them to look as nice as the ones I see on tutorials and I don't want to copy the whole style. So it took me some time to get things right.

Mini macaroons in a jar!!! Okay wait for it.... *SCREEEAAMMSSS* I love how this turn out! I'm a sucker for pastels and I love how cute it looks! I must say I almost died at the fifth macaroons but I persevered and it gave me fabulous results!

The idea seemed cute at first.. you know.... tiny bears in jar. Unntill..... after putting them in, people have been telling me they felt sad for the bears squeezing in the small jar. What do you think?

I always create bracelets using the materials as you see in the picture so I decided to go for a change and made a necklace instead. I must say, It always looked good and a bracelet but I'm loving how this looks as a necklace. Just like a statement piece.

The last one that I uploaded was this hand drawn birthday cake cameo setting necklace. I'm not too good at drawing so this was actually collaborated with my friend. We managed to sell a few of this at the flea the last time. These necklaces are really unique and I absolutely love them.

I hope I can post more and update my Etsy more. I'll try!! But in the mean time I would really appreciate it if you can Like my shop facebook page and instagram. I would be really thankful!

Pastries!!!

Sorry for the unfrequented updates. I have been lazy and out of inspiration, if not, I don have the materials to create the necklaces I have in mind.

Recently, I was browsing online when I saw pastries made of polymer clay. There were tutorials online so I manage to get tips on how to make certain texture and different methods that can be used. I got down to creating some of my favourite pastries! Here's the pictures!
CREAM PUFFS!!!!!!!!!!!!! I LOVE THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Okay calm down.... There wasn't a tutorial that showed me how to make a nice cream puff so I kind of did this myself. I thought it was quite a job well done, not the best, but good. Sadly people told me it looks like hamburger, donut, don't know what that is. Don't look like cream puffs?
Bag5ette in a basket. I actually saw this tutorials to make the baguette long ago. But guess what? I was too lazy, too lazy to get the aluminum foil. Yeah cause on a piece of foil I took a long time to this. But I finally did and looks not bad right? Added a little small ribbon at the side of the basket.

Donuts. Okay I made donuts before so I have nothing much to say. But three-tier donuts!!! Who wants it?!

I love cookies. Made a small pendant along with another small cookie.

Made this pretty macaroon and did some designs on it. Who wants their edible macaroons to look like this?
Made some Swiss rolls. Green tea flavoured with vanilla cream with strawberries. Two to be earrings and one to be a dust cap.
Made the sweet bracelet and added a Swiss roll to it. I love it! It looks so cute.
Most of the charms I made will become key chains. I'm looking for a good flea like maybe specialized in handmade crafts. If anyone know of one in Singapore, let me know!

Video Tutorial: Teddy's present

Hello all. I've something to tell you all today! I recently created a YouTube account to post video tutorial especially polymer clay tutorials cause a lot of photos are need for them. I guess it can also help you to see how certain steps are done.

I had lots of problems filming the first one because of my camera as well as when I was editing the video cause I have never done so before. You won't here my voice only because I find it awkward talking to the camera. I've tried and trust me. It didn't turn out great.

Well, it's my first time so please do tell me what you think about. Subscribe to my channel if you want to see more. But be for the video here's a picture of what I will be teaching you.
Cute? Well, here's the video!

Hope you enjoy it:)!

DIY: Clay in the Jar

Yesterday, I chanced upon one book in the library that showed the different techniques to make flowers and plants. So I thought of making different plants and flower and put them inside the jar like those water plants you can find outside.

I must say I'm please with how it looks like but I do have some problems with it too which I will say later. But this is how I made it and I'm calling it "Clay in the jar", mainly because the things that I am going to put in are made of clay.
Time: Depending on individual
Things needed: A Jar (any size)
                         Wire
Oven-baked clay (colours depending on what you are making)
                         Clay tools (optional)
                         Acrylic paint
                         Brush
                         Scissors
                         Sand or pebbles
                         Chopstick
First of you want to do this first cause you have to wait for it to dry. Squeeze out the paint colour of your choice and paint the lid carefully place a magazine below to avoid getting paint on your table.
When you are done, leave it to dry.
Start working on you clay figures that you want to place inside your jar. I learn how to make this from the book I borrowed. you also want to make sure that what you make can fit in the jar.
Bake your clay and leave it to cool. While waiting, get your sand or pebbles and fill it to where you want it to be. I'm using sand cause I happen to have them at home but I personally feel that pebbles will look better (Just my opinion).
Carefully add in your clay figurines in, use the chopstick to help shift the things in place and you are done!

My theme is that a two mushrooms living in the dark musky place finally found a gorgeous flower. I like the way it turned out.

Okay, this is my problem. the things inside move around whenever I move it from one place to another so I can't give this as gifts or anything cause it's bound to be destroy by the time it reaches the receiver. I'm not so sure if pebbles will be better since the pieces are big and chunky.

If anyone have any idea how I can make the sand and figurines stay in place do leave a comment below and share with me! Thanks!

Flower bouquet clay tutorial

Here's a tutorial on how to create a flower bouquet with clay. The flower bouquet is similar to the one in my previous post where the boy is holding on to. So let's get started!!

This will be how the final product will look like.

Time: 15-30 minutes

Tools needed: Small cutter
                        A needle tool
Pink,Green, brown and Purple clay (or any colour you want)
                        Liquid sculpey (Optional)
                        Glaze (Optional)
                        Brush (Optional)
                        An eye pin

The first part would be making the purple flowers. See the brown arrow pointing to the flower? That would be the flower that we will be making first.

First step to making the flower is taking a small piece of clay and roll it to a ball. Gently roll it to make it longer and flatten it. Follow the picture above.

Place the flatten piece of on your finger and gently roll it with your thumb from one end to the other. You should be able to get the flower. Be really patience at this part. Press the ends lightly to create a small 'stem' for it so it will be easier when you put the flowers together.

Create 3 of the same flower and place them together like the picture above. Put this 3 flower away at the side cause we are going to to be doing the next flower. REMINDER: Put your purple flowers away from where your hands will be working cause you don't want to be squashing them. I'm guilty of that *Blush*.

The arrow pointing to the pink flower will be the next flower we are working on. I sincerely apologise for the blur picture. I couldn't contain my excitement which resulted in shaky hands hands thus a blur picture.

To create this flower you will have to roll small little balls of pink clay like the one above the picture.

After you have rolled the balls, you will then have to place them together like the photo above. Line three small balls into a triangle shape and slowly stack it up. Put one small ball in the center to finish it off. Be really really patience. However, you can choose not to do this flower if you don't want to.

Place the pink flower in between two purple flower.....

....And this is what you should get.

Make more of the purple flowers and just go around it once to make a whole bunch of flowers.

Next, take a piece of green clay and flatten it........

......Using your pointer and thumb, pinch the top lightly.......

............and this is what you will get.

Using the small cutter, lightly press down and make one long line in the center and three small ones at each side. Remember not to press to hard!

Place the leaf that you have just made at the side. It has to stick out as shown in the picture.

Make the next leaf and overlap the previous leaf just by a little.

You have to make around five leaves.

To make the bottom of the bouquet, make a little bal and roll the bottom to make the top part smaller than the bottom.

Press the top and the bottom down lightly to make it flat.

Be very gentle with this part cause you might ruin the flower if you press to hard. You don't want to redo everything after coming so far.

Now we have reached the ribbon part! We are almost done! Take a samll piece of brown clay and roll into a long strand.

Place it around the part that seperates the top and bottom area.

To make the bow, make a small piece of clay and shape it to a small triangle shape.

Make two of this and stick them together.....

....and place on small ball in the middle.

Put the bow like how its shown in the picture above. We are almost there!!!!

Stick the eye pin in.......

.....bake (According to the instructions on the clay wrapper) and glaze it....

....AND WE ARE DONE!!!!!

I hope you guys enjoyed this turorial and have fun creating your own flower bouquet.
